Description
Portrait of King Frederik IV (1671-1730), King of Denmark and Norway. The King is seen wearing a powdered full-bottomed wig, dressed in a red ermine robe with a star and embroidered gold crowns, lace cravate and cuffs, armour and a blue ribbon with the Danish order of the Elephant. In the background battleships. Unsigned. Oil on canvas. 145 x 105 cm.The Danish and Swedish warships in the background refer to the "Store Nordiske Krig" (The Great Northern War) between Denmark and Sweden in 1700-1721.
