Description

AMERICAN CRESCENT CYCLES. 1899. 58x39 inches, 1471/2>x99 cm. Condition B+: creases and printer's creases in margins and image; restoration in image. Matted and framed. Ramsdell was an American painter who studied in both New York and Paris, where he was heavily influenced by the Art Nouveau work of Eugene Grasset and Alphonse Mucha. From the fabric of the gown to the lilies caught in the wind, the poster has a stylistic similarity to that of the men who inspired him, yet, at the same time, has an eye-catching, compelling and powerful effect that is very much its own. 100 Bicycles p. 19, Prior Dodge p. 160, Maitres 1900 p. 221.
